Oh, the good old days… No real responsibilities yet, as I was a consultant, and plenty of time to play. By plenty, I mean about 10 hours a day on workdays and 20 hours during the weekend. It was the best time of my life. I played almost all the MMORPGs one can name, but mostly Dark Age of Camelot and EVE Online. On EVE Online, I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate…
But now I have responsibilities… a real job (CISO as we speak) and a wife and a Corgi. Both she and I are working hard so our Corgi can have the life this fluffy little bastard thinks he deserves…
So here we are… I’m a casual gamer, and worst of all, I only have Macs at home. I used to have a rig with a RTX 3080, but I decided I am not playing enough to justify having a big, ugly tower on my desktop. Is it the end of the line for yours truly? Fear not! Along comes GeForce Now, Nvidia’s cloud gaming offer. I opted for the “Ultimate” subscription at €21.99 per month. It offers me the equivalence of a GeForce 4080 GTX. So while it seems a bit pricey, given the price of a graphics card and the computer that accompanies it, I find it a fair bargain on my side.
While not all games are available (be sure to check before purchasing it on Steam, for example…), most new games are available, like the new “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” which I’m currently enjoying. However, as I just said, some games are mysteriously missing from the catalog, like “Jedi Survivor,” even though the first opus, “Jedi Fallen Order,” is available.

But one can also play the best game ever made: Dwarf Fortress.
Dwarf Fortress, the best game ever!
So there you go, while it is not perfect, I find cloud gaming to be sufficient for my usage.
